This is in danger of turning into a Computer Blog, but then we use them an awful lot in Ham Radio these days.
Just a little tale of Panic
I am re arranging the shack at the moment, a monstrous task.
I came down at tea time and brought my laptop out of standby. The Wireless Modem was off line so I needed to open the web browser and put in the password. Sometimes a letter would be registered, other times typing a letter opened a new window, made the machine beep all sorts of things. Restarting the modem did nothing. So off with the modem and I restarted the computer.
I needed to log in with a password entering it did the same things. Just occasionally I managed to log in.
Hmm, so is the keyboard corrupted, do we have a Virus? Lets open MS Word to see what actually gets typed. Error Message “YOU ARE HOLDING DOWN THE CTRL KEY do you want to start Word in SAFE MODE”?
Ah ha, well the Ctrl key is not pressed the Keyboard must be corrupted, what can you do? Run a Virus Scan but I don’t hold out much hope, I haven’t got to do another re install of XP have I.
Whilst the Virus Scan is running there is one more thing to try. My remote keyboard which is upstairs, if it’s a mechanical problem, key stuck, then maybe the remote will be OK.
I think on my way upstairs...... Of course if something has fallen on the Ctrl key on the Remote Keyboard..... I wonder.... would it receive it downstairs?
There it was in the bedroom, a small package had slipped off a pile of bits from the shack and its corner was on the Keyboard, not the Ctrl key, …….well maybe.
YES it was.
